Help with Calligraphy Documents

Hi All,

 

I have two accordion-style calligraphy manuscripts bound in wooden boards, and I am trying to figure out 1.) whether the lettering is Chinese or Japanese (kanji) and 2.) the gist of the documents.

(1) All Chinese Characters.
(2) The left-most two are letters  briefing the sender's recent status ( Health status).
      The right-most two letters --- (sorry, too many new characters to me.)

Thanks!  I now know they're Chinese and some kind of correspondence.  That's the kind of feedback I needed.
