philipbeckwith Posted August 17, 2015 at 01:14 PM Report Posted August 17, 2015 at 01:14 PM Hello! I am looking for texts on global issues and technology. They should ideally be for a beginner or intermediate learner, so they need not be too in depth. Dialogues, articles, journals, essays or just about any format would do. I prefer online resources, but book format could work. By global issues I mean poverty, war, environmental, etc. By technology I mean computers, mobile technology, video games, etc. Thanks in advance if any of you can help out! Phil Quote
curry Posted August 17, 2015 at 07:25 PM Report Posted August 17, 2015 at 07:25 PM Hello. I don't know of any resources tailored specifically to what you are asking for, but I have found the BBC Chinese website good for your general purpose when studying Chinese. The articles are fairly short and many in number, covering a variety of topics, so I find it a valuable resource in learning Chinese. http://www.bbc.com/zhongwen/trad I hope you find this helpful in your studies. 1 Quote
imron Posted August 17, 2015 at 09:49 PM Report Posted August 17, 2015 at 09:49 PM There's very little out there that is suited to the beginner and intermediate learner. The chairman's bao is probably the closest thing I can think of. 1 Quote
sunluosi Posted August 18, 2015 at 12:30 AM Report Posted August 18, 2015 at 12:30 AM There's also an website called Decipher that has a phone app too. Pretty similar to Chairman's Bao http://www.decipherchinese.com/ 2 Quote
tysond Posted August 18, 2015 at 07:28 AM Report Posted August 18, 2015 at 07:28 AM For tech I just read TechCrunch in Chinese. The articles are short and not terribly complex so maybe upper intermediate level. Otherwise might be worth using something like Slow Chinese, Chinese Pod etc which have relatively simple texts on a variety of topics Chairmans Bao also already mentioned. 1 Quote
philipbeckwith Posted August 18, 2015 at 02:25 PM Author Report Posted August 18, 2015 at 02:25 PM Hello everyone! Thanks for the suggestions. I never heard of 'the Chairman Bao.' I like that one. Actually, I like them all. But if anyone sees this and can think of others, please do. Dialogues would be especially valuable. Quote
