roddy Posted August 27, 2015 at 12:13 PM Report Posted August 27, 2015 at 12:13 PM Are you sure you're translating it *back* to Chinese? Did he originally say it in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, what? 1 Quote
Lu Posted August 27, 2015 at 11:21 PM Report Posted August 27, 2015 at 11:21 PM From somethingfunny's link: As you think, so shall you become. 你想成为什么样的人,就真的为成为那样的人。 That certainly looks like it's translated from an originally English quote. Quote
skylee Posted August 28, 2015 at 03:22 AM Report Posted August 28, 2015 at 03:22 AM There is a similar Chinese saying 有諸內,形諸外. I don't know if Bruce Lee ever said it, but he was definitely not where this saying came from. Quote

Demonic_Duck Posted August 31, 2015 at 02:58 PM Report Posted August 31, 2015 at 02:58 PM From somethingfunny's link: As you think, so shall you become. 你想成为什么样的人,就真的为成为那样的人。 That certainly looks like it's translated from an originally English quote. Doesn't even look like correct Chinese to me. Shouldn't “为” be “会”? Also, it looks distinctly Mandarin, which seems unlikely for a Bruce Lee quote. Translating something "back to" Chinese is a bad idea. Even if both the first and second translations were very good (and that's a big if), you'll almost certainly end up with something different from the original quote Quote
