Please help me with Chinese name

middle cosmos

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just found this forum and am hoping there are some native Chinese speakers that can assist me. I am taking Mandarin Chinese this semester and have been given my name by my instructor. The name I was given was 莫銳. I think he used my English name to get it.

The first two initials of my first name are Ri and my last name is Mo. Can anyone tell me what they think of the name? Do I have to pick a Chinese name based on my English name, or can I just pick one that I like? Thank you for any help!!

Absolutely yes.

"Mo" is a tough syllable to transcribe in Chinese, much of the stuff sounds or can sound negative. You could use 墨. It's a family name so no one cares about its meaning (which is "ink" by the way, so quite neutral).
