ucdictionary Posted September 3, 2015 at 08:21 AM Report Share Posted September 3, 2015 at 08:21 AM Hi all I'm building a site called Urban Chinese Dictionary http://ucdictionary.com. I hope it can grow to be an interesting and useful resource for people that want to learn Chinese. But I know clearly without the help of other people I will never be able to achieve this goal. So any feedback is welcome Thanks
Demonic_Duck Posted September 3, 2015 at 04:53 PM Report Share Posted September 3, 2015 at 04:53 PM I'm always interested to see new resources for Chinese slang. There's a fair bit already on the existing urbandictionary site, but coverage is patchy at best. I don't think having Twitter as the only login option is a good choice, as Twitter is blocked in mainland China, and even people outside China and/or with VPNs may not have Twitter accounts. How will you deal with definitions in Chinese? Are they encouraged or discouraged? If you will allow them, will you provide for filtering by language of definition? Flickserve Posted September 4, 2015 at 12:06 AM Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 12:06 AM Good to see. Is there a page 2? I couldn't open page 2 on my iPhone.
ucdictionary Posted September 4, 2015 at 02:45 AM Author Report Share Posted September 4, 2015 at 02:45 AM @Demonic_Duck Thanks for your reply, the site will mainly focus on Chinese to English. Because the Chinese definitions can be easily found on 百度百科, and I think English definitions are still useful for some people, which is enough for me. I will consider to add other login options like LinkIn which is still accessible in China.

XiaoXi Posted September 5, 2015 at 08:54 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2015 at 08:54 AM It would be great if it could have audio for all the words.
Demonic_Duck Posted September 5, 2015 at 11:19 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2015 at 11:19 AM Thanks for your reply, the site will mainly focus on Chinese to English. Because the Chinese definitions can be easily found on 百度百科, and I think English definitions are still useful for some people, which is enough for me. Fair enough. I will consider to add other login options like LinkIn which is still accessible in China. That's still forcing people to create accounts on other sites before they can use yours, and to connect their profiles on those other sites to whatever they post on yours. Why don't you just allow people to login directly? It would be great if it could have audio for all the words. Not really feasible for all the words as it's a wiki project. But you could allow people to upload or post links to audio clips.
XiaoXi Posted September 7, 2015 at 01:33 AM Report Share Posted September 7, 2015 at 01:33 AM Good work on adding the electronic audio, although right now, for me at least, the audio opens in a new window in Chrome.
mlescano Posted March 28, 2017 at 03:40 AM Report Share Posted March 28, 2017 at 03:40 AM I'd like to know if a similar resource exists. I'm watching a Taiwanese high school drama and some slang is not in any of Pleco's "pro bundle" dictionaries.
werewitt Posted March 31, 2017 at 03:04 AM Report Share Posted March 31, 2017 at 03:04 AM It is gone. I guess Baidu is the best friend for Chinese slang.
889 Posted March 31, 2017 at 07:06 AM Report Share Posted March 31, 2017 at 07:06 AM Looks like it's been dead for a year, but there are four interesting pages left over on the Wayback Machine. https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20160418051047/http://ucdictionary.com:80/ I like 好人卡.
