wulfgar Posted September 19, 2015 at 02:52 AM Report Posted September 19, 2015 at 02:52 AM I've heard a lot hype about the Glossika Method recently, and I have to admit I didn't understand it. I knew he had sentences and audio, but I had no idea what people were supposed to do with them to learn a language, and didn't see how this could be considered to be a "Method". So I recently checked out his site, and read some reviews. Although he has a more extensive plan for how the material should be used, is this not just a copy of Learn in Your Car? L1 pause L2 pause L2? Words early on, then sentences? If I have this wrong, my apologies. I don't doubt that he has more material, and that the sentences are more native-like; hell - learn in your car was one of those programs that tried to treat every language the same. But if Glossika is using the same format, shouldn't they admit it, and give credit where credit is due? I'd like to try out this product, but the 30 Day Free Trial link seems to be broken, and they didn't answer my email. I liked Learn in you Car, but their Mandarin product sucks. Quote
ChTTay Posted September 19, 2015 at 04:33 AM Report Posted September 19, 2015 at 04:33 AM What attracted me to Glossika was the high quality, mass sentences available as audio and text. I wanted to drill sentences rather than just words and this seemed like the best project available. The method outlined in the PDF file I received isn't just listen and repeat. I'm on my phone now so can't see the exact outline (im fairly sure someone posted it on the Glossika thread). It includes listening, repeating, recording yourself, rewriting the sentences. It also assumes that you will use the program as a supplement to real lessons of some sort. Quote
edelweis Posted September 19, 2015 at 05:10 AM Report Posted September 19, 2015 at 05:10 AM never heard of "Learn in your car", don't see why any other product should "give credit" to it if it's merely "L1 pause L2 pause L2". It's not like that's an exceptionally clever or new teaching method for a purely audio program. Quote
wulfgar Posted September 19, 2015 at 05:34 PM Author Report Posted September 19, 2015 at 05:34 PM The method outlined in the PDF file I received isn't just listen and repeat. I was mainly talking about L1 pause L2 pause L2 pause, combined with words before phrases, when I compared it to Learn in your Car. never heard of "Learn in your car", don't see why any other product should "give credit" to it I've seen products copy other products formats before, and not give any credit. Happens quite often. There might not be any legal obligation, but it seems somewhat impolite at the very least. Quote
mouse Posted September 30, 2015 at 05:59 PM Report Posted September 30, 2015 at 05:59 PM I've also never heard of "learn in your car". There have been other audio based products that revolve around repeating sentences — Pimsleur and the other bloke I forget his name — but what Glossika offers is an intensive study programme. It relies on different forms of repetition: standard audio repetition, dictation, recording and interpretation. Maybe none of these things on their own are new, but Glossika puts them together in a useful package and shows you how to get the best out of it. Not to mention, Glossika is much cheaper than its competitors. For me, the problem with Glossika is more the customer service and some faults in the product itself, both of which are probably teething problems for a relatively new and ambitious company. When you're able to do the trial you should give it a go and report back. Edit: see this page for an outline of a day's study Quote
wulfgar Posted October 1, 2015 at 03:06 AM Author Report Posted October 1, 2015 at 03:06 AM Yes - I've seen that page. When you're able to do the trial you should give it a go and report back. As I said in my op, the link for free trials appears to be broken. It's under "The way to fluent speech" near the top of this page. When you click on it does it work for you? Quote
mouse Posted October 1, 2015 at 07:27 PM Report Posted October 1, 2015 at 07:27 PM When you click on it does it work for you? No, which I why I said "when you're able to do the trial". This kind of website error is an example of the teething problems I mentioned. Maybe send them an email? 1 Quote

edelweis Posted October 4, 2015 at 12:28 PM Report Posted October 4, 2015 at 12:28 PM It seems that wulfgar discovered the red button, but not the green button. 1 Quote
