old chinese letter translate

who can help.
I have a very old tea tin box 1880-1900.
Sign with very old font.
It's probably Chinese.

Can anyone tell me what the mean 3 translate me.

It looks gibberish to me, but I'm not a native speaker, so wait to see what other forum members say.

I think it also looks like gibberish. What makes you think it is that old? Have you any more info?

It could very well be an old tin box with fake Chinese characters on it.

Gibberish Chinese fonts are not really a twenty first century invention.

I was interested to know more, it intrigued me. I didn't mean to imply I didn't believe it was that old, just wondered about it.

@edelweis and Shelley: I have to admit that my first reaction was exactly that one, how can it be so old if there's gibberish Chinese on it? :mrgreen:  And then I thought, why couldn't somebody from one hundred years ago write gibberish? It would even make more sense, because in a less globalised world, it would be harder to discover it was a fake. And after all, the Voynich manuscript was written in 15th century...

Also, take a look at the character in the red seal in the middle photo; it looks for all the world like 芦. But that's the modern simplified form of 蘆. Would 芦 have been used in this context as an 异体字 some 100 years ago?
