DachZanz Posted October 13, 2015 at 06:30 AM Report Posted October 13, 2015 at 06:30 AM I'm looking for a new place, but really am not sure where to look. Do you work with an agency? SmartShanghai is really overpriced it seems for most entries. Craigslist is down, even with a VPN. I don't want a situation (which is what I just did) living with 4 roommates, sharing one bathroom between too many people, etc... Quote
Lu Posted October 13, 2015 at 09:27 AM Report Posted October 13, 2015 at 09:27 AM You could try asking around among your friends and acquaintances, checking the local expat mags and its online forums, checking message boards for students, in expat supermarkets, in foreigners' bars... I found my place through a real estate broker, but that was for an entire apartment. Quote
Mouseneb Posted October 13, 2015 at 10:44 AM Report Posted October 13, 2015 at 10:44 AM My preferred method is to inquire with security guards and management offices of buildings I like, but my current beloved apartment was found through an agent. Quote
DachZanz Posted November 6, 2015 at 02:41 AM Author Report Posted November 6, 2015 at 02:41 AM Thanks to those who posted here. I ended up going through an agency and found a really great place without overpaying, by 娄山关路。 Cheers to the Shanghai life! Quote
Frederik451 Posted December 17, 2015 at 08:25 AM Report Posted December 17, 2015 at 08:25 AM so how did you find it? did you know a good agency? im in a situation where i need to find an apartment for me and my gf and we dont wanna share with other foreigners either. Quote
DachZanz Posted December 18, 2015 at 01:32 AM Author Report Posted December 18, 2015 at 01:32 AM @Frederik I can put you touch with the agency I used if you like, but to be honest, I don't think they're any different from any other of the hundreds of agencies around Shanghai. If you're looking for an apartment around 中山公园 or 娄山关路, my guy would be a good choice. I found them through Chinese co-worker who has helped other foreigners find housing in Shanghai before. I let them know my price (undershooting the truth a bit, of course) and requirements (clean, one bedroom with kitchen and bathroom). Got laughed at for a while, told it was impossible, persisted until he decided maybe we could go out and see something that was perfect for me. Good luck! Hope this helps. 2 Quote

CB6 Posted January 15, 2016 at 08:23 AM Report Posted January 15, 2016 at 08:23 AM You might consider to use the Chinese version of Craigslist finding housing e.g. ganji.com or 58.com while you have use Chinese to communicate on those websites. Quote
roddy Posted January 18, 2016 at 11:17 AM Report Posted January 18, 2016 at 11:17 AM You're welcome to name the agency in public if you want. Quote
