dadelus Posted October 20, 2015 at 02:38 AM Report Posted October 20, 2015 at 02:38 AM All Quiet in Peking is a period series set in Kuomintang's financial reform right before the end of Chinese Civil War. In 1948, an underground Communist Fang Meng'ao (Liu Ye) who serves in the Air Force of Kuomintang is dragged into an action plan devised by Chiang Ching-kuo. Fang witnesses the death of his sister and best friend in the conflict between Kuomintang's espionage organs and underground Communist Party. Fang says he's like Don Quixote. He likes cigar, wine and New Moon poetry, but in the bloody political conflict, he does not have the power to change history. The series depicts the corruption in the Nationalist government and the failure of its currency reform. Although it portrays the dark side of Kuomintang, the writer Liu Heping says his protrayal is true to history and he is confident that audience in Taiwan can also enjoy the story. The series is adapted from Liu Heping's novel of the same name and won Best TV Series and Best Screenplay in Shanghai Television Festival. It has an all-star cast and high-quality production. All Quiet in Peking can be viewed on Youtube with English subtitles. 1 Quote
