Integrated Chinese provides the definition as "have to; nothing but... would do." I will use simpler examples to illustrate my point: 他每次去買東西，都非買名牌的東西不可。 Everytime he goes shopping, he has to buy name-brand things 我明天有中文考試，所以非複習這一課的生詞不可。 I have a Chinese test tomorrow, so I have to review the vocabulary of this lesson. dwq Posted December 1, 2015 at 12:44 PM Report Posted December 1, 2015 at 12:44 PM I find it acceptable to use 非……不可 for something that is bound to happen, not only what one have to actively do. 他如果繼續沉迷賭博，將來非弄到家破人亡不可。 So I don't have much problem with 你们非杀死地球不可 , although I do admit I don't see such phrasing often.
