oolongdrinker1 Posted December 12, 2015 at 08:50 PM Report Share Posted December 12, 2015 at 08:50 PM Hello, I purchased this teapot from Changhua in Taiwan a couple of years ago. I use it for Dong ding Oolong. I was wondering if anyone has any information, or would be able to translate any of the writing for me..my Taiwanese friend was unable to read it Thanks in advance,
lips Posted December 15, 2015 at 01:15 AM Report Share Posted December 15, 2015 at 01:15 AM On the body: 香分花上露 水吸石中泉 Fragrance of dew on petals Water of springs from the rocks A poetic description of tea. Usually the bottom inscription is the place of manufacturing and the name of the maker. BTW the picture of the bottom in the post is upside down.
abcdefg Posted December 15, 2015 at 03:04 AM Report Share Posted December 15, 2015 at 03:04 AM Very nice pot; pretty verse. I bought some good Dongding tea this fall in Nantou County (middle Taiwan.) Visited a plantation in Lugu. Was surprised to see that Dongding is written 冻顶 (冰冻的冰 and 山顶的顶)。Had for some reason assumed it referred to the compass direction, East 东 even after hearing it said. It was a trip of many language surprises. Another was that Nantou County is 南投县 not 南头 as I had previously thought. (Same tone.) At least Lugu 鹿谷鄉 (鹿谷乡)was straight forward. Didn't go to Changhua 彰化市。Wish now that I had.
oolongdrinker1 Posted December 16, 2015 at 12:54 AM Author Report Share Posted December 16, 2015 at 12:54 AM lips, thank you very much for the translation It's really nice to finally know what is written on the side of the teapot. It is a nice verse too, thank you. Finding out the place of manufacturing and or name of the maker would be very interesting, apologies that the first image was upside down. I have re-attached. Are you, or is anyone able to translate? abcdefg, thank you for you input. I have only just begun to learn chinese, I know some kanji from Japanese, but i am a long way from being able to read. I liked Changua, I spent about a week in Changua visiting a friend who studies at Changua University. It was great to have someone to show me around and take me on trips to Taichung on the back of a scooter! ;) Thanks,

lips Posted January 4, 2016 at 02:28 AM Report Share Posted January 4, 2016 at 02:28 AM My guess. 寫 (?) 面 (?) 漫 ? 温 原 泉 The two characters at the bottom left are the calligrapher's name. The four characters at the right are probably the name of the place where this was written or made.
