Jose Posted June 28, 2005 at 05:57 PM Report Posted June 28, 2005 at 05:57 PM Has anyone read anything by Shen Congwen (沈從文)? I'm thinking of having a go at either 邊城 (The Border Town) or 長河 (The Long River), which I think are his main novels. I haven't found much information about the author, but from what little I've read, he seems to be one of the best 20th century Chinese writers. I would love to hear any opinions about him and his work. Quote
badatpool Posted June 29, 2005 at 12:02 AM Report Posted June 29, 2005 at 12:02 AM Sheng Congwen's literary language is kind of strange to me, sounds southern and polished, but my friends think I am strange. Quote
liuzhou Posted June 29, 2005 at 02:38 AM Report Posted June 29, 2005 at 02:38 AM Coincidentally, The Guardian today recommend Shen Congwen as one of ten essential 'foreign' writers. Guardian Article (scroll down) Quote
