Sula Posted April 22, 2016 at 06:47 PM Report Posted April 22, 2016 at 06:47 PM By the way i know that laihua status does not mean anything, but mine got changed to "the application form is currently checking". The funny thing is that there is no retrieve button on the left, i am not even sure if it was there... Anyway, counting days till middle of May or June. Fingers crossed =)
Lolo Posted April 22, 2016 at 06:52 PM Report Posted April 22, 2016 at 06:52 PM Do you guys think that the embassies review the application documents before recommending them, or they just forward it without giving it too much attention ? I'm still afraid that my application gets rejected by the CSC because the documents aren't conform, etc.
I.carranza Posted April 22, 2016 at 07:27 PM Report Posted April 22, 2016 at 07:27 PM Do you guys think that the embassies review the application documents before recommending them, or they just forward it without giving it too much attention ? I'm still afraid that my application gets rejected by the CSC because the documents aren't conform, etc. I think it depends on how much the person receiving the documents cares about you sending the correct paperwork, for example in my country (Costa Rica) the Chinese guy in charge of the scholarships rejected my materials many times because they were not complete or were not compliant (e.g. photocopies, seals, signatures or stamps missing) He did that with almost 60 people...I'm really greatful he took the time to review each document one by one, person by person to make sure everyone had their documents in order before sending them to CSC.Enviado desde mi SM-G900F mediante Tapatalk
Cantabile Posted April 22, 2016 at 08:24 PM Report Posted April 22, 2016 at 08:24 PM By the way i know that laihua status does not mean anything, but mine got changed to "the application form is currently checking". The funny thing is that there is no retrieve button on the left, i am not even sure if it was there...Anyway, counting days till middle of May or June. Fingers crossed =) I have the same thing on my application! Also no retrieve button anymore. The waiting is killing me! Someone in a previous CSC thread said that when your application changes to "Currently Checking" it means that a university has forwarded your application to the CSC. Maybe this means one of the universities has accepted your application?
Chris Two Times Posted April 23, 2016 at 05:05 AM Author Report Posted April 23, 2016 at 05:05 AM Ya, genau. I agree with you that face-to-face interaction is better in China, and if you are already there than why not use this chance to get the preadmission letters. =)You can download and fill up the forms for the universities you plan to visit and give it to them with showing your award svholarship letter. Anyway, good luck to you. Jawohl, ganz genau! Sula, I agree. My girlfriend reminds me of this as well. The best thing to do is show up for a face-to-face and clearly explain things, she tells me. So that is what I shall do. My quest for the pre-admissions letter shall continue--no sleep til Brooklyn! Imma not a-gonna pass up this free money for a year of study...so close to livin' the dream! Continued good luck and fingers crossed for all as we embark on this tedious journey of wait, wait, and wait some more. Hurry up and wait! Warm regards, Chris Two Times
Sula Posted April 23, 2016 at 10:08 AM Report Posted April 23, 2016 at 10:08 AM @Chris Viel Glűck! @Cantabile I have applied to scholarship directly through university. Sometimes laihua status does not change at all and the student gets the scholarship. But seeing the status change brings z bit relief that at least the process is going on. =) @i.carranza You are very lucky that someone was reviewing the apllications and was concerned that they must be correct. I have applied to another scholarship before and got rejected because of incorrect form. I was in contact with the person in charge, asked him few times to verify everything but he just didnt care. Thats why i decided to apply to the uni this time
Popular Post willamcarey Posted April 23, 2016 at 01:10 PM Popular Post Report Posted April 23, 2016 at 01:10 PM On the Laihua Status. You might want to treat this one with caution. After doing some research about this, I have come up with the following "observations" regarding the importance of this one with regards to our application. My source: Last year's thread and my phone conversation with a CSC rep. 1. Besides "already recovered", the Laihua Status only changes ONCE and that is from "submitted" to "checking". I have confirmed this with the CSC reps last friday. They told me that yes, they do change the status from submitted to checking after checking your app form (obviously). but after the latter, they will make no changes. The previous app thread reaffirms this, no other status change other than this one has occured to any applicant i.e. indicating that "yeyy you got the scholarship" or something similar. 2. It matters. But by how much, this has to be qualified. Doing a quick search in last thread's results, ALL of those who got the scholarship either a) forgot their passwords hence can't check it or b) have seen their status change from submitted to checking. While a majority of those who didn't get accepted saw their status not change at all (still submitted). But there is a caveat that I would like to state, I think it matters more for embassy applicants vs. university applicants just because I saw one post (by Bjinsharp) saying that he never saw his status change yet he got the scholarship. I would like to indicate though that he seem to have applied via the university, and I haven't seen any other case similar to his (as oppose to many cases supporting my previous observations) CONCLUSION better pay attention to the status changing from submitted to checking. changing to the latter indicates progress (as Sula mentioned), for it means that people (most probably from the CSC, since they are the ones who have complete access to the portal) are checking your papers already hence considering it, while no change may mean that your documents didn't get pass through the embassy (or university) level at all. but after it changes to submitted, expect no other changes to occur-- this is confirmed by a CSC rep. In conclusion, the CSC status change will never inform you if you successfully got the scholarship, but it is a good indicator of your application's progress. check this comment as well from last year's thread: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/47670-csc-scholarship-applicationsresults-2015/page-90#comment-380000 5
Chris Two Times Posted April 24, 2016 at 01:33 PM Author Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 01:33 PM Because my understanding is that in a case where you have no admission letter, the CSC just designate you to some uni based on your major? Yes/no? purevdulam, That is my understanding of this as well. Warm regards, Chris Two Times
Breaknet Posted April 24, 2016 at 04:43 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 04:43 PM Personally, I have called my 3 targeted universities. One of them (the smallest one) said that they were not doing the ''pre-admission'' process due to the fact that they were too small. Consequently, the lady said that if they receive my documents from the CSC officer, they would automatically accept me.So, without a pre-admission letter, your documents are still going to be sent to your 3 choices. However, if you are refused by the 3 administrations, you might end up somewhere... but it seems very unlikely.
Torreno Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:18 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:18 PM Guys, just a quick survey: Which three universities did you choose?
Sula Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:19 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:19 PM @williamcarey Agree with @torreno, very good analysis. Can refer to this post later =) You still can be assigned to the university without a preadmisdion letter, but personally i think it is better to have one. So the csc knows that the university is already ok with you. =) the preadmission letter certainly increases your chances 1
Sula Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:22 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:22 PM @Torreno, I have chosen only 1 - Tsinghua University. Now feel scared, maybe should have chosen other options just in case. Fingers crossed, hope everything will be ok with my application
Prile Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:26 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 05:26 PM Peking University, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University. Already got pre-admission letters from the last two, still waiting for peking university to review my application.
Cantabile Posted April 24, 2016 at 06:56 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 06:56 PM 1. Tsinghua 2. Peking 3. Renmin I'm really hoping for Tsinghua or Peking, but I'm okay with Renmin too. Didn't get a pre-admission letter from any of the schools so it's going to be surprise where I get sent to!
金妙漪 Posted April 24, 2016 at 07:06 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 07:06 PM I just emailed Tsinghua for a pre-admission letter and they said (copied exactly from their email reply) "Sorry, there is no CSC place available at Tsinghua. Please contact other university" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wat
Cantabile Posted April 24, 2016 at 07:27 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 07:27 PM Well that's not good.
金妙漪 Posted April 24, 2016 at 07:45 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 07:45 PM Maybe they are confused... or maybe they mean just for the Chinese Language program because that's what I'm applying for??? I emailed back asking for clarification soooo we will see how that goes and I'll post if I get a reply!
Sula Posted April 24, 2016 at 09:19 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 09:19 PM Hey, maybe they did not understand you. Did you mention that you have applied through the embassy and got an award and now need preadmission letter. Maybe they thought that you are trying to apply through university quota.
金妙漪 Posted April 24, 2016 at 09:23 PM Report Posted April 24, 2016 at 09:23 PM Yeah, I included all that information. I sent the same basic email to all the universities I've talked to. I'm going to try to call them later when their office is open and see what's up. 1
