The embassy told me that my application is under final inspection and they ask me to send in the HSK cert if I have one, so that I dont have to take the preparatory courses. ( because my native language is Chinese)

Hi everyone!

 

Long-time lurker, first time poster here. I have a little question which hopefully someone here will be able to help me with.

 

I’ve applied to the CSC scholarship as well as the Confucius Institute scholarship for a one year Chinese language course at 北京外国语大学. For the CSC scholarship, I’ve applied directly through my embassy, and like many others here, my status is still ‘Currently checking’.

 

For the CI scholarship, I’ve applied through my university’s Confucius Institute, which has a special partnership with 北外, causing those students who apply to it to have a higher chance of getting accepted than if they were to apply to any other university. A couple of days ago, my status finally changed to 预录取, which I’m pretty happy with. 

 

My question is: since I applied to the same university, with two different scholarships for the same language course, could this cause a problem, a clash of sorts? Assuming that I’ll be awarded the Confucius Institute scholarship (as I’ve been pre-admitted already), would that mean that my CSC scholarship would become invalid, or would all my application documents just automatically be sent to my second choice university? I’ve emailed BFSU about this, but in typical Chinese fashion, they weren’t particularly clear and didn't really answer my question. Their reply was:

 

“学生只能获得一种奖学金，录取结果请以国家留学基金委或者孔子学院奖学金最终结果为准。”

 

I’m wondering if anyone here has had this experience of applying to two scholarships for the same university.

Does anyone if there are scholarships still open for application for 2016/2017 (US citizen, 25 yrs old, currently in Beijing studying short term and want to extend). Seems like I am a little late to the party... I recently contacted the Chinese embassy in Washington and was told that the government scholarship was a no go.

@Beth that sounds great, when you say accepted, do you mean that she received the pre-admission/admission or that CSC approved her scholarship?

Hi everyone,

 

Long time lurker, first time poster. I applied to the PhD program at the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute through the Tsinghua University online application portal. My application documents were received by the institute but the informed me that they may not be able to offer me the CSC scholarship and I would have to pay for my first year fees if that was the case. Luckily, I got an email from Tsinghua  informing me that I had been nominated for the CSC scholarship and had to fill the CSC documents and email them back to the university before the deadline which i did. I then got my conditional acceptance letter and have DHLed my application documents long before the deadline as requested and they have confirmed receiving them. So now i'm waiting for my acceptance packet. Does anyone know how long this is supposed to take? Has anyone else applied to TBSI and is it likely that I will be awarded the CSC scholarship?

It is good that your status is on the good side of 'CURRENTLY CHECKING'. I think you may have nothing to worry about. The scholarship you applied for seems to have some linkage to Chinese Government Scholarship. It is allowed according to the 14th item on FAQs (http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina/newsdetailen.aspx?cid=66&id=3074). You could apply to more than one scholarship but you will be granted only one out of the two.

 

I did not apply that way neither do I know anyone who did it in the past but this is my thought.

 

Question 14. Can I apply for more than one scholarship program?

Answer: Yes, but each scholarship recipient can be granted with no more than one scholarship. CSC reserves the right to grant only onescholarship to each individual recipient.
