No QQ updates for foreigners anymore?

Both the PC Desktop QQ International and the Android app QQ International haven't received updates since 2014. The regular QQ android app has meanwhile disappeared from the Google play store (you can't find it anymore unless you already have it installed on your device), the last play store version being 5.9.0 (current version in China seems to be 6.1).

Does anyone know a reason for this? Did Tencent decide it didn't want any foreigners using QQ anymore and everybody should use Wechat instead?

Yep, Tencent hardly ever updates International QQ. Because there is no ads in this version, so that some Chinese installed the International QQ instead of the original one.

However, you can use Wechat instead. Wechat is able to receive your QQ message after you binding your Wechat account to your QQ account.

Hope that helps.
