skylee Posted January 24, 2016 at 05:13 PM Report Posted January 24, 2016 at 05:13 PM Has anyone seen this film? I have heard / read a lot about it but have not seen it yet. All the good reviews had not raised my interest as much as the negative review of the Global Times did. This was probably because the Global Times usually makes its comments based on the Chinese Logic. So when it says something in HK is bad, it probably is the contrary. chiuyan Posted January 25, 2016 at 05:06 AM Report Posted January 25, 2016 at 05:06 AM I plan to be in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year and hope to see it then. I think everyone knew the Global Times would give this film a negative review. Quote
skylee Posted February 3, 2016 at 09:57 AM Author Report Posted February 3, 2016 at 09:57 AM AFAIK, there are now only three cinemas showing 十年: the Metroplex and UA Megabox in Kowloon Bay, and a cinema at Ma On Shan. None of them are centrally located IMHO. I have just seen it at the Metroplex. I think it is worth seeing. The fourth part about independence movement is good. The second part 冬蟬 is the weakest and very hard to stand in my opinion. PS - in fact, I find the unevenness caused by the second part a bit disappointing. PPS - regarding the fourth part, it just felt good to see the things many people have been thinking shown and said on the screen. Quote

Angelina Posted March 12, 2016 at 03:09 AM Report Posted March 12, 2016 at 03:09 AM Well, I don't have any money, not even for a low budget one. There is no way I would be able to promote it. There is no way I would be able to go against the negate reviews mainstream media will give it. Including social media, where, at least in my native language, there seems to be a main public discourse lead by certain people, it is pretty clear what their political views are and how they ended up being opinion leaders. Therefore, when I start promoting it online, the opinion leaders on social media will turn public opinion against it, we all know what happened to Gary Webb. I remember before I left home, some friends of mine had a student newspaper. They wrote an article on students protesting against high tuition fees and then the US embassy censored the article. The message of the embassy was clear: "you are not allowed to publish this article". I hope people of HK will get to decide what happens in their neighborhood. I think the distributor(?) really missed a trick by not making the film available internationally while it was in the news because of Apple/iTunes/China: http://www.zdnet.com/article/apples-itunes-movies-and-books-services-suspended-in-china/ Quote

mandel1luke Posted September 6, 2016 at 01:17 AM Report Posted September 6, 2016 at 01:17 AM Managed to catch this film a few months back and ended up quite disappointed. Felt the film could do better in three segments rather than five, that would help develop the plot and arguments better. None of the five really explore the political issues in depth and present any cogent arguments as to why or how the scenarios developed. The best of the lot is the last. My subjective opinion of course. Quote
