TheWind Posted February 1, 2016 at 06:36 AM Report Share Posted February 1, 2016 at 06:36 AM Same regulations exist in China, I've been working here for a couple of years now. I can't say they wouldn't hire you as a personal trainer anywhere in the country for sure, but if I was a betting man, I would bet that they would hire a local. roddy Posted February 1, 2016 at 03:38 PM Report Share Posted February 1, 2016 at 03:38 PM I seem to remember there were foreign personal trainers working out of gyms in Beijing several years back, but visas have gotten a lot tougher since them. Mind you, if a gym wants you and can hire you as a 'gym management consultant' or 'physical culture exchange specialist', and they can get it past the visa authorities, who knows... Some of the sports universities (here's one) might be glad to have you as a student or teacher. Get into the country like that and you can maybe pick up private training work on the side.
Angelina Posted February 1, 2016 at 05:03 PM Report Share Posted February 1, 2016 at 05:03 PM I think I once saw an ad where a luxury hotel (foreign brand in China) was looking for a personal trainer, try getting in touch with some of those. geraldc Posted February 1, 2016 at 06:48 PM Report Share Posted February 1, 2016 at 06:48 PM Back in the late 1990s, if I ran across a Westerner in a dodgy provincial nightclub, they were either a footballer or a hairdresser, both jobs that didn't require degrees.

Simon_CH Posted February 2, 2016 at 09:44 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2016 at 09:44 AM I know foreign guys who work as trainers for sports teams in China, that is definitely an option, you don't have to be a high-profile football coach to do that. And yes, there are plenty of foreigners who have non-teaching jobs in China, they might even be the majority, at least in 1st tier cities. But most have degrees and professional experience (managers, engineers, architects etc)
roddy Posted February 2, 2016 at 09:48 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2016 at 09:48 AM It is kind of illegal, but... well, it's also kind of done. Your call. It's definitely less safe than it used to be. Teaching does usually require a bachelors degree, but if you've got other skills or experience and they actually want you, they might be able to make it happen. Let us know how it goes. Simon_CH Posted February 2, 2016 at 10:18 AM Report Share Posted February 2, 2016 at 10:18 AM The guys I know are professionals though, they are 100% legal. Not gym personal trainers but actual sports coaches, quite a lot of demand for them actually outside of their own traditional Olympic training centers I hear for team sports especially.
