Josiah S. Posted April 22, 2016 at 05:57 PM Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 at 05:57 PM Thank you everyone for your input. That is actually a very good point 889. I personally don't have an issue with writing 薛. In fact, I find it a little harder to make 木 look right in 深, but with practice I am getting better. I also think it is true that native Chinese speakers won't be as picky because of the fact that I am a foreigner, however I personally find it important to learn how to read, write, and pronounce things properly. I guess it is really up to the individual learner and their purposes behind learning Chinese.
Demonic_Duck Posted April 23, 2016 at 12:30 AM Report Share Posted April 23, 2016 at 12:30 AM And as a foreigner, you're not expected to speak good Chinese, either, so let's just stop worrying about those pesky tones, grammar rules and distinguishing ci and ce. Life will become so much easier. Lol, that's quite some strawman, especially when your suggestion by that analogy amounts to avoiding using the syllable /ci/ wherever possible.
889 Posted April 23, 2016 at 01:09 AM Report Share Posted April 23, 2016 at 01:09 AM No, that's completely wrong. I always avoid the use of ce.
