Ian_Lee Posted December 16, 2003 at 01:22 AM Report Posted December 16, 2003 at 01:22 AM In Mainland (other than the Pearl River Delta), most people think that Phoenix TV network is HK-based. In Hong Kong, most people think that Phoenix TV network is based in Mainland. Who is right? Quote
Quest Posted December 16, 2003 at 04:21 AM Report Posted December 16, 2003 at 04:21 AM isn't it based in taiwan? Quote
pazu Posted December 16, 2003 at 05:29 PM Report Posted December 16, 2003 at 05:29 PM Ian, I'm in Hong Kong and I THINK it's based in Hong Kong, and yes, it's really based in Hong Kong. The office is very small in Hong Kong but it's their headquarter. Quote
laolee Posted December 17, 2003 at 06:26 PM Report Posted December 17, 2003 at 06:26 PM I found this article from 2000 prior to IPO: http://www.techbuddha.com/upcoming/phoenix.html Look halfway down under Shareholding Structure. From my reading: 45% Australian owned (based in HK) 45% + 10% Chinese owned History and background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_TV#History Quote
889 Posted December 26, 2003 at 02:21 AM Report Posted December 26, 2003 at 02:21 AM Describing one of Phoenix's major shareholders as "Australian" doesn't quite do the culprit justice. The "Australian" shareholder here is News Corp., which is of course controlled by that ex-Australian American, Rupert Murdoch. News's current shareholding in Phoenix seems to be 37.6 percent. Now you know why Phoenix's coverage of the US-Iraq War relied so heavily on Fox. Quote
