Quick Translations: Year, Semester, Grading System, and from... to ...

Recommended Posts

I'd like to write a few things in Chinese:

Third Year

第三年

First Semester

第一学期

Original Grading System

原版的 评分标准

Revised Grading System

修订的 评分标准

from 90 (the grade 90)

九从

to 100

至一百

Is there an equivalent letter grade system in Chinese i.e. A, B, C, etc.?

The first four translations have no problem.

For "from 90", the translation is wrong.

"从" means "from", but it should be placed in front of something you want to start, just like English.

In this case, you want to start from ninety, so it should be "从""九十".

Please also note that "九" is nine, and "九十" is ninety.

Synonym for "从" could be "由". "由九十" also means "from ninety"

"to 100" has no problem.

For grading system in Chinese, yes, it has. Listed below ---

A: 甲
B: 乙
C: 丙
D: 丁
E: 戊

F is fail so "不及格" could be used.

Never seen 甲乙丙丁 used for grades in mainland China. Schools just use A, B, C, D, E (and yeah, I guess 不及格 for a fail).

Hi Demonic Duck,

I was educated in China since I was born, so I could tell you that 甲乙丙丁 could be seen in schools, especially for Chinese subjects.

There are even schools use "上" and "下" to divide each grade into three, just like A+, A, A-... in English.

To clarify, 甲乙丙丁 are generally used in Primary and Junior Secondary school. They also use "阅" or a big tick to indicate teacher already read the homework, whichever grading is not applicable.

However, Grading system becomes more "universal" in Senior Secondary and Post-secondary for easier understanding by the people around the world (for the sake of job application).

For example:

优秀 - Excellent

良好 - Good

中等 - Satisfactory/Pass

Best wishes

John
