Pokarface Posted March 12, 2016 at 07:27 PM Report Posted March 12, 2016 at 07:27 PM Hi. I'm looking for books that talk about "saving face" in China. The closest books I can think of are those written by Confucius. How exactly do people in China know what saving face is? Are there books about it or do they only know about it because it has been done that way for more than 5,000 years? I want to understand this concept since I already speak too much Chinese but I'm a Chinese culture ignorant. Quote

Pokarface Posted March 12, 2016 at 08:12 PM Author Report Posted March 12, 2016 at 08:12 PM Thanks Shelley! I really think that at my current Chinese speaking level, the worst I could do in China is keep acting American while speaking Chinese. I'll read it and try to apply it in China to fit-in the culture. Quote
Shelley Posted March 12, 2016 at 08:49 PM Report Posted March 12, 2016 at 08:49 PM By the way i just spotted you in the new course I have just started Pinyin is easy. I mean, compared with Chinese characters. Here is an example: What's the Chinese translation of Trump's name? This is how it appears on the introduction to pinyin page. Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted March 13, 2016 at 01:49 AM Report Posted March 13, 2016 at 01:49 AM Chinese "translation" of Trump's name is "Sichuan Mandarin". Quote
