Leiya Posted March 15, 2016 at 01:37 AM Report Posted March 15, 2016 at 01:37 AM There aren't much universities in my countries that offers Chinese studies, I know one but it is a college course, while another centers on Asian Studies (for ex. you specialize in Northeast Asia, you will study about China, Korea and Japan), and it doesn't focus on Chinese studies alone. Im really interested in Chinese studies and that's why I took up China X (EdX online course), but I doubt this is recognized by universities, especially if I want to teach in the future. Is Confucius Institute recognized? I know they offer culture studies (like arts. papercutting, taichi and playing Chinese musical instruments). I think courses like this are only for the improvement of personal knowledge, and not a professional one. Quote
Chris Two Times Posted March 15, 2016 at 02:42 AM Report Posted March 15, 2016 at 02:42 AM Where to study? China! Get thee a scholarship and get your study on! http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/scholarshipdetailen.aspx?cid=97&id=2070 ...and may I present, the MOFCOM scholarship? A few universities (Fudan, Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong) actually have "China Studies" MA programs that would be covered by the MOFCOM. http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/scholarshipdetailen.aspx?cid=97&id=4849 I would encourage thee to apply for a scholarship in the future and come to China. 好好学习! Warm regards, Chris Two Tmes 1 Quote
eion_padraig Posted March 15, 2016 at 02:42 AM Report Posted March 15, 2016 at 02:42 AM Are you looking for a PhD course then? Or a Master's level course? What type of setting are you looking to teach in? University? High School? Chinese University in Hong Kong has an interesting http://www5.cuhk.edu.hk/ccs/index.php/academic-programmes They have bachelor, MA, and PhD programs in Chinese studies. I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but based on your original post it might be worth having a look. Eion 1 Quote
Leiya Posted March 15, 2016 at 04:20 AM Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 at 04:20 AM Thanks Chris and Eion. Eion - Im currently working for the government... maybe in the future5 yrs. from now I want to change what Im doing or maybe just do... something like a part-time lecturer in college. Do they have a short or certificate courses and if I study in China that would mean I would have to leave my job... Its just so unfortunate that universities here dont offer Chinese studies for Masteral. (Studying China is included in Asian studies courses). Quote
