yedafu Posted April 20, 2016 at 10:41 AM Author Report Posted April 20, 2016 at 10:41 AM Indeed one of the classic- thanks for the replays! but its seems like this version is edited- do you guys happens to know some other resources for the book? Quote
Geiko Posted April 20, 2016 at 02:16 PM Report Posted April 20, 2016 at 02:16 PM I read it from haodoo.net. Bear in mind that this version is in traditional characters, and that it's only the short story called 《黄金时代》. It seems that the book contains four more stories (see here). Quote
roddy Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:29 AM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:29 AM So far you've spent two days looking for it. The electronic version is 2Y on Amazon.cn. 1 Quote
yedafu Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:38 AM Author Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:38 AM Can i be sure the version they offer is not edited? Quote
roddy Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:40 AM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:40 AM What actual edits are you concerned about? I'll refund the 2Y if you're not happy. Quote
yedafu Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:44 AM Author Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:44 AM well the coursing and the sex parts...if they are edited what the fun with this book? Quote
roddy Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:49 AM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 11:49 AM With that attitude, sir, you are not fit to read the book. Back to 网络小说! I don't know. It's 2Y. There are probably OCR errors. Like I say, it's 2Y. What do you expect for free, which is what 2Y is. Quote
Lu Posted April 21, 2016 at 02:23 PM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 02:23 PM Perhaps there is also a better version for sale somewhere online? Might as well spend money on the real thing instead of something pirated, even if the author is dead. It's not like Chinese novels are expensive, even at the full price. Quote
Guest realmayo Posted April 21, 2016 at 02:29 PM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 02:29 PM Is there reason to think the Amazon books are pirated? Quote
Angelina Posted April 21, 2016 at 02:40 PM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 02:40 PM who knows, realmayo, it's China after all Quote
Lu Posted April 21, 2016 at 06:45 PM Report Posted April 21, 2016 at 06:45 PM @realmayo: I was unclear, sorry. Free books would generally be pirated, but books on Amazon would probably be legit, although at 2Y wouldn't necessarily expect good quality, and good quality might cost a little more. Quote
Guest realmayo Posted April 22, 2016 at 01:22 AM Report Posted April 22, 2016 at 01:22 AM Ah I see, I asked because I'm puzzled at how cheap (or often, how deeply discounted) many of the Amazon novels are, and why. Quote
roddy Posted September 20, 2017 at 11:16 AM Report Posted September 20, 2017 at 11:16 AM Just noticed that 20 years (!) after his death, two of Wang's works are topping bestseller lists on Amazon.cn. Not quite sure what 沉默的大多数 is doing in 小说*, but never mind. Quote
somethingfunny Posted September 20, 2017 at 12:30 PM Report Posted September 20, 2017 at 12:30 PM So, this 黄金时代 book, is it any good? I see there's a film adaptation, maybe I'll watch that. Quote

Search the forums a bit, some people love it. It's neither overly long nor overly difficult, so just read it and you'll know if you're one of them. 1 Quote
somethingfunny Posted September 20, 2017 at 12:42 PM Report Posted September 20, 2017 at 12:42 PM Pretty much the exact response I was looking for. Quote
roddy Posted September 20, 2017 at 12:54 PM Report Posted September 20, 2017 at 12:54 PM It's kind of daft, but it's been fifteen years or since I read some of his essays (on a Palm TX or T3?, compiled, for I have no idea what reason, as a .chm file downloaded from eMule*) on the Beijing Subway, but if you asked me to recommend a Chinese author for a starting-out reader of Chinese, that's still what I'd go for. *Man, that sentence made me feel old. For the kids: Palm devices were like smartphones, but they couldn't make phone calls. Yeah, like an iPod Touch, but three times as bulky. .Chm files I still don't know, I just remember spending ages getting that one to open. And eMule was... well, imagine the world had only one hard drive... 1 Quote
