Prepositional phrase and adverb

I thought that adverbs always are placed before prepositional phrases.

So, is this example sentence correct?

我请小白跟我们一起吃饭

Shouldn't 一起 go before 跟我们?

Nobody's responded, and I can't really handle answering questions in terms of grammar rules. But I can say that 我请小白跟我们一起吃饭 sounds fine while 我请小白一起跟我们吃饭 sounds awful. There's a pattern -- 跟 [somebody] [在]一起 -- and it doesn't like being broken up.

Do adverbs always come before prepositional phrases? I don't think so. Definitely not when they modify adjectives (e.g. “他对我很好”). As for “跟我们一起” I've only ever seen it that way around, never “一起跟我们”. Maybe the rule you're thinking of is meant to apply to adverbials with 地. It seems those do tend to come before the prepositional phrase. So you would say “骄傲地对我说” and not “对我骄傲地说”. I never really thought about that before but it does seem that the first way is much more common than the second way.

I'm not an expert on this, but since modifiers come before what they modify, it seems more logical to place 跟我们 before 一起, because 跟我们 is modifying 一起 by answering the question "together with whom?". That said, google searches for "跟我们一起" and "一起跟我们" turn up many examples of both.

"跟我们一起" does get about 4x as many hits as the alternative; it seems like the latter's less correct but acceptable online, informally etc.
