chialtism Posted April 28, 2016 at 10:27 PM Report Posted April 28, 2016 at 10:27 PM Hi everyone I've been wanting to try my luck at reading Chinese non-fiction for a while, since I generally enjoy reading non-fiction. Does anyone have som suggestions? My only requirement would be that they are originally written in Chinese and the topic of the book is somehow related to China/Chinese society. 1 Quote
gato Posted April 28, 2016 at 11:43 PM Report Posted April 28, 2016 at 11:43 PM You can try some essays by 王小波: https://www.amazon.cn/gp/aw/d/B00P8KQ9TS/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?qid=1461886942&sr=8-5π=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=王小波&dpPl=1&dpID=51BJ4uzkF7L&ref=plSrch If your level is high enough to read history, I would recommend books by 杨奎松: https://www.amazon.cn/gp/aw/d/B00C1UIKDG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1461886829&sr=8-3π=SY200_QL40&keywords=杨奎松&dpPl=1&dpID=31T1xFLR-kL&ref=plSrch 1 Quote
stapler Posted April 29, 2016 at 05:58 AM Report Posted April 29, 2016 at 05:58 AM Kind of wondering why you don't want to read a translated book? Quote
roddy Posted April 29, 2016 at 09:22 AM Report Posted April 29, 2016 at 09:22 AM You could take a look at 常识 by 窦文涛, who is a regular guest on forums favourite show 锵锵三人行. Quote
Sajimi Posted April 29, 2016 at 01:58 PM Report Posted April 29, 2016 at 01:58 PM Ooh, have you ever read anything by 薛欣然 Xinran? She writes non-fiction in Chinese (and sometimes in English) about life and society in China, women's place in a Chinese society, the generations that survived the cultural revolution, ... I've really enjoyed her books and suggest you check them out! 1 Quote
