markcarter Posted May 3, 2016 at 05:29 AM Report Posted May 3, 2016 at 05:29 AM Since Anki supports javascript in card templates, I was wondering what would happen if you embed something like eStroke's stroke animations (essentially using Anki for it's scheduling and eStroke for the content). I've built this deck with HSK1 words as an example. (note: sometimes the animation doesn't autoplay, not sure why...) This approach could actually be used for any website that supports a URL for any given Chinese word (e.g. online dictionaries, and tools like HanziCraft and CharacterPop though clearly the simpler the layout (probably mobile website versions best) the better). Now, there are obvious limitations of this approach - slow, requires internet connection, not much customisability over online content (though eStroke does a good job here) - but I thought it's worth trying out and sharing anyway. Has anyone already been having success with embedding webpages within Anki? Would be great to hear any feedback on this. Thanks! UPDATE: added card type for CharacterPop Quote
HerrPetersen Posted May 3, 2016 at 06:43 AM Report Posted May 3, 2016 at 06:43 AM Have you looked into this resource http://skishore.github.io/makemeahanzi/ for your project? Quote
markcarter Posted May 3, 2016 at 06:45 AM Author Report Posted May 3, 2016 at 06:45 AM Yes, I know this one - but, to my knowledge, they do not provide a page with just the stroke animation, so it's less convenient for embedding in a card. Quote
markcarter Posted May 11, 2016 at 07:24 AM Author Report Posted May 11, 2016 at 07:24 AM I've added a new card template to show CharacterPop's character breakdown for the answer (though this currently doesn't work for multi-syllable words). Quote
pross Posted May 11, 2016 at 12:26 PM Report Posted May 11, 2016 at 12:26 PM @markcarter For character learning, my flashcard template includes a hyperlink that opens the Pleco stroke animation page. Example here: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/49949-my-2-year-journey-to-mandarin-native-pronunciation-part-4-how-i-use-anki/?p=386454 Quote
markcarter Posted May 11, 2016 at 12:29 PM Author Report Posted May 11, 2016 at 12:29 PM @pross Nice, though it would be good if the stroke animation shows as soon as you hit Show Answer and also on desktop/browser etc. Quote
