abcdefg Posted May 7, 2016 at 10:46 AM Report Posted May 7, 2016 at 10:46 AM I often catch part of this TV show during prime time while waiting for something else. It shows on CCTV 3 at 6 or 6:30 and is a variety show, usually featuring acrobats, song or dance. The judges give two thumbs up to acts that they like. The problem I have is with the name itself. For a long time I thought they were saying 出差, but that didn't make sense. Figured out that's it's really 出彩 with a different tone for the second word. I know that word from 彩票 among other things. But I'm having trouble trying to either translate or rephrase what 出彩 means in this context. Pretty sure the characters are correct, since I was able to confirm them via a Baidu search. http://www.iqiyi.com/a_19rrhb05jd.html?vfm=2008_aldbd This isn't keeping me up nights with worry, but I was still kind of wondering about it. Thanks for your thoughts. Quote
889 Posted May 7, 2016 at 11:25 AM Report Posted May 7, 2016 at 11:25 AM From Wenlin, which pretty much follows the ABC Dictionary: 出彩 chūcǎi 〈coll.〉 v.o. ① make an embarrassing error ② cause mischief/trouble (of children) ③ make a good show; do brilliant things ◆s.v. brilliant; exciting; splendid 1 Quote
