Marriage registration/certification: UK and China

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find out if it makes any different if I was to 'get married' in China as a foreigner (with Chinese partner) or try to go back to the UK and do it there THEN come back to China and 'give notice' / register that marriage (or whatever it's called). I've searched online but can't really find out either way if one is better/easier than the other.

Has anyone from the UK had experience with this? Either a UK citizen being married in China or with a marrying a Chinese National in the UK.

Thanks for your help.

I'll bet Joshua Webb could help. Wonder if he's still around.

Esoteric reference. Apologies for that, Chris.

Joshua was a young Englishman who moved to Xiamen 5 or 6 years ago. Made lots of thoughtful posts on the forum, with questions at the start and later with solid contributions about life in China. Here' are a couple I was able to find just now: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/24998-xiamen/#comment-208781

He graduated university and found a job. Pretty sure he met a Chinese girl whom he eventually married. As "real life" intruded, he posted less and less. Have not seen anything in a year or two.

I was thinking that he probably had investigated the same questions that ChTTay asked.
