Pollution in Beijing - Any experience?

My AQI reader just says Beijing has hit over 900 today. Honestly cannot see anything from my window.

But that's due to a sandstorm, today. This is a big difference. In Gansu, there are semi-regular over 999 days due to sand storms since many of the cities are in or next to the desert. These will happen regardless of the pollution controls that Beijing enforces.

True - although the PM2.5 is  over 550 - so a lot of it is still pollution

My parents arrived yesterday for the first time in China. Had to spend the first day convincing them that Beijing mostly isnt like this during the summer!
