还是绿的好

There’s this sentence in a textbook that I have to transform by adding 一下:

 

这两件衣服，我比较了以后，觉得还是绿得好。

--> 这两件衣服，我比较一下以后，觉得还是绿的好。

 

However, I don’t exactly know what the sentence means, so I can’t be sure if my alteration is correct.

 

My attempt at translating:

"These two pieces of clothes, after I finished comparing them, I thought/decided the blue one is better".

 

Is ”还是。。。的好“ some kind of unique grammar structure?

Another similar one I don’t fully understand:

 

但是，即便在经济低迷的情况下，有些工作还是不做的好

"But even in a bad economy some jobs are just not worth it."

Here, there same 还是 .. 的好 structure appears "had better no do 的 good". In this example is it the same as saying 还是不做就好了？

還是...好 is a pattern: "... is better/best"

綠 means green, not blue.

还是 conveys a sense of "still", "in the end", ....

I'd like to expand a bit on the "still / in the end" notion. (Caveat: native speakers are bad at explaining their own languages and I'm a native speaker lol)

 

这两件衣服，我比较了以后，觉得还是绿的好。(=还是觉得绿的好)

These two pieces of clothes, after having compared them (side by side), I still think the green one is better. (My opinion remains unchanged.)

These two pieces of clothes, after having compared them (side by side), now I think the green one is actually better. (Although I thought the blue one would be great.)

 

有些工作还是不做的好

Some jobs, it is just best not to take them. (Opinion, advice, warning, etc)

 

要是不做就好了

It would be better if only we/you/someone hadn't done it. (Counterfactual regret)

還是 implies you have considered the alternative and decided against it.

Yeah, think about how you ask either/or questions like 你覺得藍的好還是綠的好？ This is just the affirmative version where you omit the other option(s)
