vellocet Posted July 9, 2016 at 03:34 AM Report Posted July 9, 2016 at 03:34 AM Year before last on Singles Day, I bought an oven off Taobao for ¥249. A great deal, and it worked fine. It fit my full size cake pans, made BBQ chicken, all that good stuff. Didn't use it often. A year or so later, it pops the circuit breaker a few seconds after being turned on. Call repair, they say the bottom heating element has failed and they can't get a replacement. I tell them just move the broiler from the top and use that. ¥200 repair bill. But still, worth it for an oven that usually goes for ¥800, right? It lasts for another couple months and starts popping the circuit breaker again. So I gotta buy a new oven, but all the choices are baffling. The price goes from way too cheap, just gonna break again, up to 2000 yuan plus, which is more than I wanna spend. Anyone know how to buy an oven? They don't really compete on features at all. I mean, it's an electric oven, it heats food. Silliness like a rotisserie attachment is just gilding the lily. The only difference is the internal volume measured in liters, and that's not particularly important as long as it fits a full size cake pan. Anyone bought an oven recently? What did you look for? gato Posted July 9, 2016 at 06:05 AM Report Posted July 9, 2016 at 06:05 AM We have bought two ovens in the last year, a small one for toasting, a bigger one for baking . What are you going to use it for? Quote
vellocet Posted July 10, 2016 at 02:15 AM Author Report Posted July 10, 2016 at 02:15 AM An electric oven for the kitchen capable of holding one or two 13"x9" baking pans. I use it for baking cakes and cookies, cooking meats and pizzas, and melting cheese for nachos. Quote
imron Posted July 10, 2016 at 05:58 AM Report Posted July 10, 2016 at 05:58 AM When I bought one of these ovens, I got one with a double insulated front door. Having a single sheet of glass for the door struck me as something that would just leak heat. Quote
gato Posted July 11, 2016 at 04:02 AM Report Posted July 11, 2016 at 04:02 AM We have this Panasonic 32L oven for baking. It works pretty well. http://item.jd.com/1351160.html 松下(Panasonic)NB-H3200 家用电烤箱32L 专业烘焙 大容量 1 Quote
vellocet Posted July 11, 2016 at 04:27 AM Author Report Posted July 11, 2016 at 04:27 AM Hmm, 800 yuan and a foreign name brand? How long have you had it? Any problems? I mostly just don't know how much is reasonable to spend in order to get a model that doesn't break, but not so much I'm wasting money on appliances. For some reason appliances like ovens and refrigerators have a really high ceiling on how much you can spend. 30x the price of the lower models. Quote
gato Posted July 11, 2016 at 04:42 AM Report Posted July 11, 2016 at 04:42 AM We've used it for about a year and haven't had any problem. By the way, it can fit up to a 10-inch pizza pan. Quote
ChTTay Posted July 11, 2016 at 05:22 AM Report Posted July 11, 2016 at 05:22 AM That one Gato linked to looked good. We have a cheapo Chinese one we got on sale. It's about the size of a microwave and is good for toast, roasting small cuts of meat etc. I wouldn't wanna do anything serious in it. Quote
LinZhenPu Posted July 11, 2016 at 07:00 AM Report Posted July 11, 2016 at 07:00 AM Won't your Chinese guests turn their nose up at the Japanese brand name? Quote
