New Members BenjaminB Posted July 14, 2016 at 06:16 AM New Members Report Posted July 14, 2016 at 06:16 AM Hi everyone, I am currently trying to improve my listening skills and I thought that watching vlogs in mandarin made by native speakers would be a nice way to do it. Do you guys know any good chinese vlog on youku, youtube or anywhere else? Quote
大肚男 Posted July 15, 2016 at 12:38 AM Report Posted July 15, 2016 at 12:38 AM I enjoy America vs taiwan, the sexual content is not my cup of tea, but I like the dynamic between Shane and xinxiya. I believe the show is made for Taiwanese audience, rather for foreigners trying to learn chinese, so it is more natural, but since Shane is American, the conversation is usually understandable for anyone who is at intermediate level or higher. https://m.youtube.com/user/americavstaiwan? 889 Posted July 15, 2016 at 12:55 AM Report Posted July 15, 2016 at 12:55 AM If you like Taiwanese TV shows with those boing-boing-boing sound effects every ten seconds, then maybe you'll like that vlog. If not, it's plain awful. Really awful. Quote
大肚男 Posted July 15, 2016 at 01:36 PM Report Posted July 15, 2016 at 01:36 PM I'm not sure what 899 is referring to. However, I would appreciate any good suggestions for good blogs that are appropriate for listening practice (intermediate level) Quote
Guest Tantara Posted July 15, 2016 at 02:00 PM Report Posted July 15, 2016 at 02:00 PM https://www.youtube.com/user/avalonsinsectisland - American girl’s channel, not native speaker, but her pronunciation is really good. Quote
889 Posted July 15, 2016 at 04:30 PM Report Posted July 15, 2016 at 04:30 PM "I'm not sure what 899 is referring to." What am I referring to? How could you possibly miss those sound effects? Quote
LiMo Posted July 16, 2016 at 12:52 AM Report Posted July 16, 2016 at 12:52 AM @899 They're totally natural and happen to me all the time. You don't hear sudden boingy noises when someone makes a joke? You should get that checked out. Quote
889 Posted July 16, 2016 at 01:20 AM Report Posted July 16, 2016 at 01:20 AM So you have one of these? https://www.amazon.com/NPW-Sound-Machine-Hilarious-Effects/dp/B00D9DZ94M "Perfect for board meetings, phone conversations, family get-togethers, and much more." Quote
Luxi Posted July 18, 2016 at 11:27 AM Report Posted July 18, 2016 at 11:27 AM I don't know any vlogs, but CCTV 4 (the International Central TV channel in Chinese), besides news, has a few interesting programs in Chinese with subtitles in Chinese and English. You can watch it on PCs (there's also a dedicated You Tube Channel, I think) or as an app for iPad/iPhone. The subtitles are placed on a side of the screen, so you can avoid looking at them if you don't want to. They used to be very difficult to read but have improved a lot in many newer programs. Quote
