One-way ticket update

IATA confirms you don't need a return ticket here:

 

 

The following should be taken into account even if holding a Visa:

 

Travel on a one-way ticket is allowed. Visitors must hold proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay and documents required for their next destination.

AFAIK it's a general policy, but if you want to double-check your particular case there's a way to do it.

 

Has anyone actually ever been asked for proof of funds?

I traveled from the US to China this year and last year on a one-way ticket. No questions asked. And I've never been asked for proof of sufficient funds at any time in the last 10 years (when I first came to China.)
