TSkillet Posted July 18, 2005 at 04:03 AM Report Posted July 18, 2005 at 04:03 AM This is a pretty interesting project that the NBA and FIBA have worked on globally. They held their first event in Beijing this past weekend. The central concept is having a regional basketball camp for the elite youth of that area - the first one was held in the Balkans - and they invted the best Serbian, Croatian, Montenegran and Slovenian youth players. The camp invited the best players from China, Hong kong, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Iran and Taiwan to participate, and they used NBA players and coaches to serve as camp coaches - including Yao Ming. The side projects the event worked on - were HIV/AIDS education and building a reading and learning center for a migrant school - which I thought was pretty cool. TSkillet Posted July 19, 2005 at 12:57 PM Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 at 12:57 PM ESPN's Ric Bucher with a report on the camp - and how every NBA player should be forced to attend one. It talks more about the HIV/AIDS problems and the issues with migrant labor more than basketball. Quote
Hung_LoongGwat Posted August 28, 2005 at 04:38 AM Report Posted August 28, 2005 at 04:38 AM I don't know about being forced it's a good thing the NBA players/coaches who chose to go there are doing though. Quote
