New Members doncobb Posted August 26, 2016 at 04:19 AM New Members Report Share Posted August 26, 2016 at 04:19 AM In the mid 1990's my mother traveled to China to serve as an English language teacher at a women's university in Fuzhou. Due to a family emergency she only got to spend four months in country before she had to return to the states. In July of this year she passed away and while going though her collection of items from the trip we found a "print". The document is obviously hand printed on what I would call rice paper (excuse my ignorance if it is showing). If any one could translate the document or give us some clue at to what it is we would be very grateful. Thanks in advance, Don Cobb
889 Posted August 26, 2016 at 10:42 AM Report Share Posted August 26, 2016 at 10:42 AM 福 Good fortune, happiness 福如东海 A wish for great fortune and happiness, especially on a birthday 赠 乙亥年夏 Presented Summer, 1995 柯夏乐 女士 Madame Ke Xiale (your mother's Chinese name, third character not definite) 汪采林 畫 Inscribed by Wang Cailin (second character not definite) This is written by ink and brush on the special Chinese paper known as 宣纸 xuan zhi. Properly, it should be pasted and mounted as a scroll, though this would probably be expensive in the U.S. This would have been presented to her on a special occasion, perhaps her birthday, perhaps her return to the U.S., or such.
