New Members lalaveigh Posted September 8, 2016 at 06:45 AM New Members Report Posted September 8, 2016 at 06:45 AM Hi I will be starting a new teaching job in about a week in Hangzhou. I was wondering, in addition to the regular leave days do teachers also go on leave when the schools are closed for breaks in between semesters? Thanks Quote
ChTTay Posted September 9, 2016 at 06:00 AM Report Posted September 9, 2016 at 06:00 AM It depends what kind of school you work in. Generally, English language training schools will get the major Chinese holidays off (October National Day, Spring Festival) as well as Summer holidays. Often other small holidays aren't actually real holidays as the days just get moved around. For instance, you might get Thursday to Saturday off but then you need to work Sunday. Sunday might be treated as a Friday (in terms of what classes you have). You would likely just get 1 day for Christmas and New Year each. A public school would likely also have day swaps as mentioned above but you're likely to get more Summer holiday. A University would likely have the most holiday out of all of the job options. A friend of mine still isn't back to work and has about 3 months paid holiday. International schools will follow a more international schedule. This often means very long summer holidays, time off for Christmas, as well as all the Chinese holidays. Quote
