WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:06 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:06 AM roddy, "I think there will be one or two who will wonder why Qian Xuntong, Lu Xun and Mao all wanted to get away from Chinese characters" Because, as writing systems go, they're really kind of daft. Never seen anyone claim to find hidden meaning in the letter f. Although that would make a fine episode of Sesame Street. "Today we're going to learn about the letter f, the number 9, and a global conspiracy." There is a difference between a logographic and a phonetic script. In a phonetic script, every letter has a sound attached to it. In a logograph script, every logograph has a meaning attached to it. There are logographs with meanings that most people are not aware of. For example, the Kangxi Dictionary says that 肱 has a

Angelina Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:22 AM Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:22 AM Most Chinese characters are phonetic-semantic compounds. A logographic script?? Where? The people you are talking about wanted to make learning Chinese more accessible, to make knowledge open. Are you sure you are helping that? Have you tried learning Chinese?
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:28 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:28 AM Angelina, Very true. The people that I am talking about wanted to overcome the oppression of imperial China. The dedication in my book says: Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains. J. J. Rousseau This book is dedicated to everyone who faces oppression. The people who wanted to overcome oppression fought against the Confucian ideology that was oppressing the common man. I am publishing my book because China is returning to Confucianism.
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:31 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:31 AM Angelina, You say they wanted to make learning more open. True. They wanted to get rid of 漢字 to do that. The Confucian scholars prevented that. There are still Confucian scholars who know the code. The return to Confucianism will allow them to oppress the common man again. To make knowledge open, everyone must have access to classical Chinese.
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:33 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:33 AM Angelina, Tell your masters that they cannot stop the book. You can keep rubbishing me and my book. But it is publish outside China where you can't touch it.
Angelina Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:49 AM Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:49 AM The more you think about secret powers oppressing people, the further you move away from challenging that power. Why don't you start learning Chinese instead of looking for a secret code that keeps people ignorant?
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:52 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:52 AM Lu Xun and Qian Xuantong wanted to free the people from the tyranny of Confucianism. The way to free China from the tyranny of Confucianism is to expose Confucianism's dark secrets.
Angelina Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:58 AM Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 10:58 AM They wanted to liberate people. Do you?
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM I do. The way to liberate the people is to make everyone equal, with equal access to knowledge. You and your Confucian friends only wish to oppress those who have no knowledge of classical Chinese.
Angelina Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:10 AM Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:10 AM are you sure you have chosen reason and liberation?
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:48 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:48 AM Angelina, Read my dedication again. China can always do away with 漢字 and use Pinyin as Lu Xun and Mao wanted. it is not too lat to get rid of 漢字 as those who wanted to liberate the people had wished.
Angelina Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:55 AM Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 11:55 AM Well, can you read and write Pinyin Mandarin?
Angelina Posted September 18, 2016 at 12:15 PM Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 12:15 PM not only Lu Xun, look at John Dos Passos, quite relevant to what is happening in China right now, unfortunately
WKC Posted September 18, 2016 at 12:44 PM Author Report Posted September 18, 2016 at 12:44 PM Your fiends should not have gone back to Confucianism. If you want to go back to Confucianism, then everyone must be fully educated in classical Chinese. You want to liberate the people. It starts with education.
imron Posted September 19, 2016 at 02:17 AM Report Posted September 19, 2016 at 02:17 AM For some strange reason, my previous post was truncated. At a guess, probably because you posted a character outside the Unicode basic multilingual plane and the database used by the forums doesn't support that and truncates posts when that happens.
WKC Posted September 19, 2016 at 03:30 AM Author Report Posted September 19, 2016 at 03:30 AM Then your website does not fully support characters used in classical Chinese.
imron Posted September 19, 2016 at 03:34 AM Report Posted September 19, 2016 at 03:34 AM It doesn't support any characters outside the BMP, and so there are many things that it does not fully support.
Demonic_Duck Posted September 19, 2016 at 03:49 AM Report Posted September 19, 2016 at 03:49 AM @WKC Please stop. Go post this rubbish elsewhere. For someone who professes to have a strong grasp of logic, it's ironic that your arguments are just a mixture of nonsequiturs and ad hominems. @imron: Recommend locking this thread. Despite the best efforts of its author, it has seen some genuinely interesting discussion, but it seems to have run its course now. 1
