murrayjames Posted October 10, 2016 at 03:21 PM Report Posted October 10, 2016 at 03:21 PM This is the most comfortable forum you have ever run into. You will feel like writing in it all the time. I just saw Roddy's forum signature, and it reminded me of this notebook (picture attached). I used to see this notebook in Sichuan all the time! Many of my students had one. I think my wife did too. I wonder how many of us here have run across this expression in our travels in China. Quote
mouse Posted October 10, 2016 at 05:25 PM Report Posted October 10, 2016 at 05:25 PM Haha, that's great. I used to take pictures of my favourite random copypaste text on notebooks in Chinese stationary shops. Maybe I should dig some of them out. Doubt any of them will be as serendipitous as that one though. Quote
Lu Posted October 11, 2016 at 08:38 AM Report Posted October 11, 2016 at 08:38 AM I doubt that's serendipitous. I used to have that notebook too (didn't we all) and I've always read the forum tagline as a joke on exactly this notebook. The other great signature I once saw here was by Onebir: 'life in kunming: good good rest breath, day day up net'. Or in other words: 好好休息 天天上网, instead of 好好学习 天天向上. 2 Quote
roddy Posted October 13, 2016 at 09:53 AM Report Posted October 13, 2016 at 09:53 AM It's definitely my favourite and most long-lived signature. Close runners up include 对不起,我是警察 and a claim to hold executive posts at the 人和车厂, 《人间指南》杂志 and the 三T公司。 If they still sell those notebooks, buy one and send it to me. Quote
murrayjames Posted October 13, 2016 at 03:46 PM Author Report Posted October 13, 2016 at 03:46 PM Roddy, I would but alas, I'm back in the West! I'm sure they still sell those notebooks, though. It seemed like every 文具店 in Chengdu had them. Where did you live in China, when you lived in China? Quote
roddy Posted October 14, 2016 at 10:14 AM Report Posted October 14, 2016 at 10:14 AM The bulk of my time was in Beijing, but I also spent a year in each of Wuxi, Harbin and Dalian. Quote
