spock Posted October 15, 2016 at 04:38 AM Report Posted October 15, 2016 at 04:38 AM I postponed it for a long time... but I think it is time to learn Chinese idioms! I must say, It's little bit scary for me. Anyway, I've been wondering, which materials are suitable to start my adventure with Idioms? I would like to have a book with background story behind idiom as well as some examples of usage, This book looks interesting: A Concise Dictionary of Chinese Idioms with English Explanations by Chen Ru https://www.amazon.com/Concise-Dictionary-Chinese-English-Explanations/dp/7513806225/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1476505664&sr=1-1&keywords=A+Concise+Dictionary+of+Chinese+Idiom Guys, what do you think about this book ? is it useful? Thank you in advance Quote

Shelley Posted October 15, 2016 at 09:52 AM Report Posted October 15, 2016 at 09:52 AM I would suggest a couple of small books, they might not be scholarly works but they are interesting. Fun with Chinese Idioms Vol. 1 & 2 by Ching Yee and John Smithback Published by Federal Publications ISBN 981-01-3069-4 ISBN 981-01-3070-8 They have one idiom per page (small A5 approx format) with pictures and little stories about them in English with characters for the idiom.
