Kenny同志 Posted October 20, 2016 at 08:57 AM Report Posted October 20, 2016 at 08:57 AM I am translating a brochure for an Australian law firm. It is intended to provide general information about the firm's areas of expertise and what services they offer. In the 'Energy and Resources' section, its services include 'Environmental regulation and strategic cropping legislation'. I have done quite a lot of research but am still not quite sure what 'cropping' means here. Any pointers, folks? Thanks in advance. Quote
Guest realmayo Posted October 20, 2016 at 09:07 AM Report Posted October 20, 2016 at 09:07 AM cropverbgerund or present participle: cropping 2. harvest (plants or their produce) from a particular area. "hay would have been cropped several times through the summer" When it's "strategic", seems to be a term used in Australia for land which is, as part of a government strategy, designated as suitable for and dedicated to growing crops. Therefore preventing it being used for mining etc. https://www.arrowenergy.com.au/projects/project-updates/strategic-cropping-land-validation-application Strategic Cropping Land (SCL) is land that is being used or is likely to be used for cropping, because of a combination of the land's soil, climate and landscape features. The SCL trigger maps indicate the location of potential SCL. http://www.queenslandcountrylife.com.au/story/3368320/additional-strategic-cropping-land-zones-announced/ "Today's announcement means a much larger area of valuable farming land in Queensland is classified as Strategic Cropping Land and offered protections under the new Regional Planning Interests Act 2014," he said.
