Cyath Posted November 2, 2016 at 10:57 AM Report Posted November 2, 2016 at 10:57 AM Currently using the Zhongwen add-on for Google Chrome to read webpages and such, it's proving very useful, but I would like to know if there was a program that could also give you the readings of the word on mouseover. (with voice, that is) Have Googled a bit but since the people on this forum seem to have incredible knowledge of Chinese resources, I thought I would take a shortcut and come here instead. Would also like to know if there is a similar program for offline content - i.e, text documents and such. Quote
Luxi Posted November 2, 2016 at 04:06 PM Report Posted November 2, 2016 at 04:06 PM Chinese Reader 8 will do that, it will also work with Windows 10's Edge browser, and non-browser apps like Office or pdfs (some pdfs at least). It's not free but I find it very useful. You can download from the link above and try it for free for a couple of weeks. You can activate the automatic speech function by going to Settings>Speech and ticking 'Auto-Pronounce'. It'll drive you crazy Edit: yes, it works offline, the dictionary is saved in your system. yifeng Posted November 4, 2016 at 03:01 AM Report Posted November 4, 2016 at 03:01 AM @Cyath Smart Chinese Reader 3.0 is designed for your purposes. It offers a built-in web broswer with a popup Chinese dictionary. To hear a word pronounced, click the SPEAKER icon on the popup dictionary, or press Ctrl + z. Moreover, as a Chinese learning software, it can segment a sentence into words, read aloud the whole sentence, translate it into Chinese, etc. Please refer to the post http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/50512-smart-chinese-reader-20/ and visit our website http://www.nlptool.com Quote

vellocet Posted November 6, 2016 at 03:18 AM Report Posted November 6, 2016 at 03:18 AM Installed Zhongwen, didn't know it existed. I was having all sorts of bizarre problems with Perapera. Once it was great, but no more. Kind of like nicku.com in that effect. Quote
