Words with the same Radical

I like these kinds of words. I don't know if there is a name for them or not but I find them easier to remember cause of the same radical. The first ones that come to mind are 仰仗, and 信仰. Any more?

A few insects and small animals with the 虫 radical:

蝙蝠 biānfú = bat

蟒蛇 mǎngshé = boa, python

蛤蜊 gélí = clam

蜘蛛 zhīzhū = spider

螞蟻 mǎyǐ = ant

蝴蝶 húdié = butterfly

蚯蚓 qiūjǐn = earthworm

蚱蜢 zhàměng = grasshopper

蜻蜓 qīngtīng = dragonfly

蟑螂 zhāngláng = cockroach

螳螂 tángláng = mantis (same láng as above)

蛤蟆 hámá = toad or frog

蟾蜍 chánchú = toad (I found this one in the dictionary. Apparently, it can also mean the moon. I don't know the relation between toad and moon. Can anyone explain it?)

蝗蟲 huángchóng = locust

螃蟹 pángxiè = crab

蜜蜂 mìfēng = bee

蟾蜍 chánchú = toad (I found this one in the dictionary. Apparently, it can also mean the moon. I don't know the relation between toad and moon. Can anyone explain it?)

嫦娥奔月神話新探

早在戰國時代,古人就傳說月中有蟾蜍。屈原在《天問》中說:「夜光何德,死則又育?厥利惟何,而顧菟在腹?」根據聞一多先生〈天問釋天〉中的說法,「顧菟」即蟾蜍,《靈憲》中也說:「嫦娥遂托身於月,是為蟾蜍」。因為月宮中有蟾,所以人們俗稱月宮為「蟾宮」。又因為「菟」字與「兔」字相近,所以另有一種說法說月中有白兔,不管是蟾蜍或白兔,牠們所做的事就是搗藥,即不死藥。如《樂府詩集》「相和歌辭,董逃行」中就有:「采取神藥若木端,白兔長跪搗藥蝦丸蟆丸」之句。

從近年出土的漢墓中,更可看到蟾蜍搗藥形象化的證據。常任俠在(沙坪壩出土之石棺畫像研究)一文中指出:「較小一棺,前額刻一人首蛇身像,一手捧月輪。後刻兩人一蟾,蟾兩足人立,手持方杵而下擣。右側一人,兩手捧物而立」。

原來所謂月中有蟾蜍,或說月中有蛙,世界其他地方的月亮神話中也有一樣的說法。在中國方面,經聞一多等人的考證,也已確定至少在《楚辭》的<天問>篇裡,就已提到月中有蟾蜍的看法。這也就是說,「月中有蟾蜍」的觀念,不是嫦娥奔月神話的附產品。不是因為被認為悖情的嫦娥遭受天譴,變成了蟾蜍,然後中國人才有「月中有蟾蜍」的觀念。事實的真相是中國古代的人和一些其他世界各地的人一樣,早就有了月中有蟾蜍的觀念,而嫦娥奔月神話在發展過程中,就吸收了當時已經存在的這個觀念。多元結合的結果,這個神話的內容因此越來越豐腴。

古人以為月中有蟾蜍,其中這個蟾蜍和月的關係,以及其蘊含的象徵意義,是頗為複雜的問題。許多地方的學者已有所討論,至今仍是爭議很多的議題。

琵琶 pípa = "pipa", a music instrument

駱駝 luótuo = camel

尷尬 gāngà = embarrassed

崑崙 Kūnlún = the Kunlun mountain range

囫圇 húlún = whole

囹圄 língyǔ = literay term for prison (this is very easy to remember. It reminds me of 囚)

圍困 wéikùn = besiege (very meaningful too)
