there used to be a few near Beijing Sports University that were quite cheap but good value that catered for the students there.

A few of the markets in Haidian had sports stalls that sell cheap pads and gloves, what sort of equipment were you looking for?

actually equipment for sparring, gloves, pads, and some equipment for striking like wall-mounted sandbags. i did check out the scene at the sports uni, but there were maybe 5 shops and they were really small, lacking a lot of stuff.

What about weapons, like swords (Chinese, Japanese..) and bows (Mongolian?) etc.? Are there shops for good training equipment (the ones I'm interested in don't have to be sharp, they just have to be well balanced and have a nice sound )? Also, what do Chinese laws say about possession of weapons (be it for display or training)?

Sorry about that and thanks to RODDY.

The shop that is part of that web site is oposite the south gate of BUPE ( Beijing tiyu daxue , 北京体育大学 ) tel 86-10-62965296. It is a small shop and the last time I was there there was a couple more next door.

If you then go to the West gate, this is on a wide road,Then continue north about 100 m there is a row of shops. In the middle of them is a small shop. It looks small from the outside but if you go in you can go up stairs at the back. There is a very large shop upstairs. They mostly do wushu weapons but have been helpful in the past getting other things.
