John Al Posted January 18, 2017 at 06:14 AM Report Posted January 18, 2017 at 06:14 AM My grandma loved to travel to China, she left two scroll paintings we don't have any clue. Could somebody help to translate the meaning and the artist name who made them. Huge thanks for your help. Quote
Sandro Posted January 18, 2017 at 10:34 AM Report Posted January 18, 2017 at 10:34 AM It says something like "Wandering in Lijiang picture" and then following what might be the name of the painter, Ding Ang. Following is: Guilin Qixing Mountain residence. Guilin, Qixing is a place name in Guangxi province, Lijiang is the river flowing through there. It's not 100% but now you have an idea. You can google the place names. 1 Quote
Publius Posted January 18, 2017 at 06:56 PM Report Posted January 18, 2017 at 06:56 PM 灕江行牧圖 丁卯夏日於桂林七星山居 Cattle herding on the Li River Summer of 1987, at mountain dwelling in Qixing, Guilin The painter's name is 陳德X (the seal is hard to read) N.B. It didn't say cattle but sheep is highly unlikely. Also 丁卯 could mean 1927 or 1867 or 1807... you get the idea. 1 Quote
Sandro Posted January 19, 2017 at 02:42 AM Report Posted January 19, 2017 at 02:42 AM Ok, Publius saw some of the characters more clearly. I didn't catch the 牧 and the 夏. So his version is correct. Quote
John Al Posted January 19, 2017 at 02:38 PM Author Report Posted January 19, 2017 at 02:38 PM I really appreciate your help Sandra and Publius. So, the name of the artist is Ding And? Quote
Publius Posted January 19, 2017 at 04:25 PM Report Posted January 19, 2017 at 04:25 PM 1 hour ago, John Al said: So, the name of the artist is Ding And? No. The name of the artist is Chen DeSomething (陳德?, the third character I can't read). Of course it could be just Chen De, if the seal says 陳德之印 (personal seal of Chen De) but it doesn't look like 之 to me so I'm not sure. Quote
