In the Heat of the Sun

In my Chinese Cinema class we watched Jiang Wen's "In the Heat of the Sun" (陽光燦爛的日子， Yangguang canlan de rizi), and I thought it was great. It seems impossible, however, to get a DVD of the film--at least on the internet. I emailed edaymovie.com about the title, and they said there was a Hong Kong VCD, but it's no longer available. Anyone heard anything about a DVD release coming anytime soon?

Also, there was a part of the film where the gang were sitting on a rooftop, one playing guitar, singing some romantic communist song about Moscow. Anyone know what song this is?

I love this film. I have I think a Japanese DVD edition, with Japanese, Korean, English and Chinese subtitles, so I am sure there is a DVD version out there, and it has been available for several years.

The song is 莫斯科郊外的晚上, the Russian song every Chinese knows.

I don't know if it has English subtitles. The movie never got wide release in the US, so it's likely that no US DVD was ever released.

Yeah, I don't have a an all-region dvd player anyway, so I opted for the VCD anyway...$.99, but $7 shipping, go figure ;p

Finally got around to watching this a while ago, after it had been sitting in my 'to watch' pile for ages. Absolutely gorgeous film, highly recommended.

In case you didn't know already, "In the Heat of the Sun" was adapted from 《动物凶猛》, a novel by Wang Shuo.
