Squawk 1200 Posted January 28, 2017 at 08:44 PM Report Posted January 28, 2017 at 08:44 PM I have haerd anectodal reports that young Chinese people (born 1990s and later) are significantly taller than their parents and grandparents. Do you find that to be true? There should be some data from i.e. high schools in major cities. Quote
edelweis Posted January 28, 2017 at 08:59 PM Report Posted January 28, 2017 at 08:59 PM 图解:中国居民营养与慢性病状况报告(2015年) It doesn't target specifically young Chinese, but it shows that the average height has increased compared to 2002. Quote

anonymoose Posted January 29, 2017 at 06:43 AM Report Posted January 29, 2017 at 06:43 AM As people have become more wealthy, nutrition has improved, along with obesity. Young people from poor areas appear smaller than from wealthy areas. 1 Quote

889 Posted January 29, 2017 at 08:11 AM Report Posted January 29, 2017 at 08:11 AM There used to be cringe-worthy ads running on TV all the time for pills that would give your young 'un some extra height without wearing 增高鞋. Quote
happy_hyaena Posted December 25, 2017 at 12:02 AM Report Posted December 25, 2017 at 12:02 AM Yeah the Chinese high school kids (you can tell by the uniforms) you meet in the developed cities (i.e., the cities I've mostly been to and can draw anecdotal data from) are much taller than the previous generations. The guys especially can sometimes look very adult despite only being like 17. I have a very distinct memory from when I visited Guangzhou earlier this year I was walking around to, making my way to a temple, when I walked by a high school. A group of high shoolers came swaggering out of the gates and started walking next to 5'10 me, making me feel like their 学弟 these kids lived in a very central area of the city so I assume they had been well fed their whole lives... Actually, I suspect that there might even be a very noticeable difference in height between the high shoolers of today (born in the early 00s) and the people in their mid-twenties (early/mid 90s). Just pure speculation on my part though. Quote
DavyJonesLocker Posted December 25, 2017 at 01:21 AM Report Posted December 25, 2017 at 01:21 AM Also there is a noticeable difference between north and south Chinese. Quote

Shelley Posted February 20, 2018 at 10:34 PM Report Posted February 20, 2018 at 10:34 PM This has happen all over the world, as nutrition and health has improved so the next generation is taller and healthier. It is not really a surprise. 1 Quote
