Interpreting old chinese date

Not sure if I'm reading the date in this picture correctly.

The words in the picture are:

咸豐鼎元辛亥葭月
通家第林用(昌鳥)謹撰

咸豐- This indicates the time period of the reign of Emperor XianFeng of Qing dynasty (1850-1862)
鼎元- No idea what indicates ( a rank of some sort?)
辛亥- This corresponds to 1851 in the Gregorian calendar
葭月- The 11th month of the year (lunar calendar)

I guess its around December 1851 - January 1852.

Anyone knows what 鼎元 indicates?

According to a quick Google search its a term to describe someone who came in the top 3 of the imperial exam.

Ok but what is its relevance to the date?

Literally none? The time period is named after a person, and the person got a badass score on the exam. Also see 咸豐狀元

Perhaps you're asking the wrong question... The exam rank may not be relevant to the date, but the date is relevant to the exam rank.
