Ta Ke Ho (Da Jia Hao in Taiwanese),

Anyone know of any books or other resources for learning the most common calligraphic idioms and writings seen during the Chinese New Year? I'm talking about the calligraphy one sees on the red paper in front and inside houses.

If your could get the characters that'd be great. We can't really know what you're saying without them.

Here are some popular sayings :

"新年快乐"

"春节快乐"

"身体健康"

"年年有余"

"福"

"祝你。。"

"鸡年大吉大利"

"万事如意"

This is standard Mandarin ^^

They're usually written as 对联, on two strips, one to hang on each side of the door. Hanging inscriptions for CNY specifically are called 春联. Just search Google Images for 对联 and 春联: you'll get many examples.
