Original copy of Master Degree for Working Visa

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, Right now I'm outside of China, my future employer asked me to send it to them documents for Visa (Foreigner Certification) among many health check results I was asked to send a original, hard copy of my master degree. I'm little bit worried, I heard that PSB does not return documents, no matter whether application is successful or not.

Does anyone has this experience? I am worried I will lose my original copy of Master degree.

Ask your university how to get another original hard copy of your degree testamur. You can pay a fee to your university and they will issue a new original testamur. You should be able to order as many as you like. Get another testamur, that way you don't have to worry and you don't have to take the current out of the frame, etc.

That explains it... I'm going to wait for somebody else to chime in on this one. Maybe it's not true that the PSB won't give you back your testamur? How else are people who can't get another original copy of their degree suppose to switch employers?

That's really annoying and actually pretty absurd that your Chinese university can't give you another copy of your degree. What are people whose original degree gets lost or destroyed supposed to do??

Here's what I'd do. Go to the university administration, politely ask to order a new copy of your degree testamur, and when they say it can't be done ask for their supervisor or someone else in charge of issuing degree testamurs/transcripts/results. Press the issue. Be prepared to tell them that you really need it and why, and that it's absolutely absurd that they can't give you a new original copy. Tell them don't be ridiculous, you need it and you're not going to leave until you talk with someone that can do it.

I had to send off the original copy of my Bachelors when applying to work in China - I was told that it's a necessary part of your employer getting the work permit and letter of invitation (which they'll then send to you - you need them to apply for the Z visa).

I had the same worry about it getting lost, but my employer did a good job of keeping everything safe. My main worry both then and now is the reliability of China Post - I've had stuff sent through them that's simply gone missing. My only recommendations are to apply for a second copy of your degree certificate or to send your original tracked (China Post EMS, DHL or similar) with the provision that it be returned if the delivery can't be fulfilled for whatever reason.

Congratulations on the upcoming job, by the way! :)

Did you get it back?

Yep - my visa situation was a bit peculiar (arrived on an L visa, changed to a Z visa later) so they needed it for visa-related things, but gave it back the minute it was resolved. I think most people are receptive and respectful enough to realise how valuable an original degree certificate is.

There you go Spock. Napkat got his testamur back so there's no reason why you won't get yours back.

This is something new and looks like it will be applied rigorously all over the world.
