Whatever Happened to that...

They're resting - I never got around to reinstalling them after the server move. It's on a list of things to do, and it shouldn't take long - it's just one of those non-urgent projects which I tend to forget about.

On the plus side I'm currently paying someone to come up with example sentences for each item - although characteristically I have no idea how many they've actually done so far.

I see..I look forward to having that back

As I remember, the vocab was stratified into levels- 1,2,3 and 4. What is the significance of this?

Now that's something I'll be looking forward to!

The levels were the levels that HSK vocab is divided into. It's a little confusing as they don't correspond very well to the actual HSK exams.

I just found that the wordlists are actually still up and functioning, on a hosting account I didn't realise was still active. You can access them here, and I'm in the process of moving them onto this domain (see :wall post in the Computing forum). They seem to be working fine. Don't bookmark or link to that page, as it'll soon become dead.

I'm not sure how much progress is being made on the example sentences, but I'm trying to spur that along too. The idea is to bring together the HSK wordlists, HSK character lists (I think I have these, but not sure if they are complete), part of speech and English info from Adsotrans.com and the example sentences to make an online HSK dictionary, rather than simple wordlists.

I had a rough working version of this up a few months ago, but it died when I had the minor spat with the hosting company ( :tong to the hosting company ). Don't hold your breath, but hopefully there will be something worth using for at least the lower levels soonish. But really, don't hold your breath.

Ok, the old wordlists are now back available at Chinese-forums.com/vocabulary, as they were previously.

There's also a sampling of what I have in mind for these here - this only covers HSK Level 1, and there are only example sentences and translations for the first couple of hundred entries, but it should give you an idea of what I'm hoping to work towards. All characters are clickable (or should be)
